The Plas-Labs SIMPLICITY 888 Automatic Atmosphere Glove Box has been engineered
to be self contained, compact and easily portable on a standard laboratory cart.
The Plas-Labs’ cart cushions the chamber and has horizontal racks for the safe storage of
anaerobic gas tanks.

The basic housing is formed of rigid acrylic plastic to eliminate the possibility of
through the wall leakage of oxygen into the chamber. The vacuum or transfer chamber is
constructed of .500 thick acrylic plastic which is also rigid. The clear acrylic provides
constant visual observation over whatever items being transferred into or out of the main
chamber.

The gasketing system is double layered, closed cell, self skinning neoprene. The double
layered technique is far superior to a simple single gasket which can easily take a set.
Use of high vacuum silicone grease between the gaskets is recommended. All clamps are
completely adjustable to compensate for wear.

The internal PLC and operator interface control the actions of the SIMPLICITY 888
System. The operator interface contains a menu that is used to establish “personalized”
parameters for both the transfer chamber and main working chamber. These parameters
are used to define the purging cycles. They include: gas pressures, vacuum pressures,
and holding pressures.

The Catalyst Heater unit serves two functions. First, it serves as a heater for carrying
out ideal incubation temperatures. Second, it aids in carrying out the catalytic reaction to
achieve anaerobic conditions. It is recommended that the Catalyst Heater Unit is set to
37° C during oxygen reduction.

The Drying Train canisters are used to remove moisture and gaseous impurities from the
main chamber. The canisters are filled with molecular sieve. Each canister has male and
female “self-sealing” quick dis-connects. When the molecular sieve reaches its’ maximum
moisture capacity, it can be regenerated by “baking” out the water.
